St Helena Day Flag raising Ceremony in London.

Today, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, hosted a flag raising ceremony for St Helena Day in New Palace Yard in London.

In attendance to witness the ceremony were Minister Andrew Turner, Mrs Kedell Worboys MBE, and invited guests. The ceremonial event was personally hosted by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, continuing a proud tradition of honouring the British Overseas Territories.

For Saints and the diaspora, the sight of the island’s flag featuring the St Helena wirebird and a historic three-masted sailing ship against our rocky coastline flying at the main public entrance to the UK Parliament is a powerful symbol of recognition.

The ceremony holds an extra layer of personal significance for Sir Lindsay who has developed a deep affection for the island and its community, following his official legislative visit to St Helena in February 2024. His hosting of today’s event reinforces the strong, enduring bonds between the Westminster Parliament and the Island’s government.
