Food enthusiasts on St. Helena have a new reason to spice up their offering with the opening of “Spice and Stuff,” a new business upstairs in the Jamestown market. Operating under the well-established Island Images umbrella, owned by Derek and Linda Richards, this new venture promises to bring an aromatic world of flavour to St Helena’s kitchens.
Opened yesterday, Thursday, “Spice and Stuff” boasts a selection of over 100 different spices sourced from two of South Africa’s leading brands. Customers were reportedly delighted by the initial offerings, which include a wide variety of Masalas and other exotic spice ranges.
Derek, is well-known on the island for his passion for fine dining and warm hospitality, expressed his excitement about the new endeavour. “I love spices and spicy products, and I know there are people on the Island who also like them but often find it hard to buy locally,” he said. He added with a smile, “Of course, we don’t expect spices to fly off the shelves, as once you buy a packet you are not going to need another until that one is gone… So, it’s simply feeding our passion.”
While the shop will operate with limited hours initially, there are ambitious plans for expansion once additional stock arrives. Derek shared his vision: “We hope to add sauces and pickles to the range,” and even the “opportunity to include some local products as well.” He also welcomes ideas for new stock requirements from the community.
This new venture, while a fresh undertaking for Island Images, remains firmly within their decade-long expertise in food provision. For those eager to explore the new offerings or with any enquiries, Derek can be reached on +290 5180 or via email at office@islandimages.co.sh.
