I want to speak with honesty and clarity about why I stand as a candidate for the 2025 election. This is not about me, it’s about the future of St. Helena, and the choices we make together will decide the direction of our Island for years to come.
I believe very strongly that no government, no manifesto, and no promise at this stage can truly work unless they are built on political team effort. Why? Because without teamwork, what we end up with are only individual voices one person calling for change in utilities, another demanding shipping reform, another asking for sustainable fisheries, a bigger aircraft, and yet another pushing for direct flights from the UK. These are all important issues, but when each idea stands alone, without collective strength, they cannot be delivered.
That is why I am a strong believer that today, more than ever, St. Helena needs team effort. With the right collaboration, we create the structure that paves the way for better political decisions. We create unity. We gain the ability to win majority support and push real change through. Without it, every so called “manifesto” is just a wish list from a single individual, with no power behind it.
Now, I want to be clear: I am not here to present just another manifesto. Manifestos, as we see them now, do not work. What I want to present to you is a vision, a process of support, and a pathway for what St. Helena truly needs for the future. It is not about saying, “I want this, I want that.” It is about building something together that actually delivers.
If elected, one of my main aims will be to create a system that works for St. Helena. By doing so, we will gain a clearer definition of where we need to go, and we will also give our young people a real framework to engage with, to believe in, and to carry forward. Another key focus must be ensuring that our young people’s voices are truly heard. We already have a Youth Parliament, but how much meaningful engagement is actually happening? Are their voices genuinely influencing decisions?
I have already worked hard in the area of education, and many of you know my track record when I chaired that committee. Some have tried to take credit for the things I fought for, but this is not about pointing fingers it is about building a better future together. The Youth Parliament exists, but I will push to strengthen its influence so that young people not only have their say, but also see their future reflected in the decisions we make.
So, I ask you: when you cast your vote, think not only about individual promises but about the bigger picture. Think about the need for collective strength, clear direction, and a government that can actually deliver.
That is why I stand for election in 2025.
