Update: Chartered Flight Arrives with Engineers and Spare Parts
Following earlier reports, it is now confirmed that an SHG chartered flight arrived in St Helena this afternoon. The aircraft brought essential tools, oil, and spare parts, along with two specialist engineers tasked with repairing the airport’s fire tenders.
While repair work begins immediately with teams working extra shifts, officials caution that the process is complex and may take several days. Once work is complete, the tenders must undergo testing to regain Category 6 capability.
In a positive turn, the flight utilised spare capacity to repatriate six people including medical referrals and critical staff while eight individuals were able to depart the island on the outbound leg.
