Who remembers the days when you could look forward to showcasing your best local produce, show off your livestock, and share creations from our kitchens.
This is your chance as St Helena’s much-loved tradition is making a comeback!
This year, a dedicated group of volunteers is re-inventing what used to be one of the Island’s highlighted events.
This Community led Agricultural Show will take place on Francis Plain on the 15th November 2025, and it’s already shaping up to be a fantastic day, but to make this event a true success the event needs YOU.
The volunteer team is calling on all farmers, breeders, smallholders, to register their livestock and enter their names for the poultry competition. Categories include Cattle, Goats, Sheep, Pigs, and poultry, your efforts will automatically enter you with the chance to win the many prizes up for grabs across the different categories. Horticultural entries are also required, along with displays of arts and crafts across a variety of categories.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy.
More than just a local display and a great day out for all, the Agricultural Show is a celebration of St Helena’s rural heritage, local skills, and community spirit. It gives everyone the chance to share knowledge, showcase the best of what we can produce on St Helena and at the same time inspire others to value St Helena and its resources. For our community, this event has the potential to strengthen our local connections and also an attempt to keep a great tradition alive.
On the announcement of the group’s attempt to re-invent the agriculture show day, members of the community in a online group discussion recalls this popular St Helena calendar event recalled the show casing of local crafts, various district stalls filled with all sorts of products and handcrafted items and various animals and poultry of all sorts, there were even peacocks and horses at the show which is believed to be no longer living on Island. The 1977 event was one of the highlights when the show day formed part of the two-day celebrations for the silver jubilee anniversary that was run by the then agriculture department.
The success of the day this year depends on community involvement. Registration for livestock is essential so preparations can be made in order for preparations and to accommodate all entries.
