Yacht Club launches ambitious crowdfunding appeal for a brighter future!

The Saint Helena Yacht Club, an island charity powered by the dedication and passion of its incredible volunteers, has launched a new crowdfunding appeal to secure its vibrant future. These volunteers, with their deep love for both the sea and the island, work tirelessly to provide vital services for visiting yachts and the local community, ensuring the club remains a thriving hub of maritime activity and community spirit.

As the Jamestown seaside undergoes significant changes with cargo handling moving to Rupert’s Bay, the Yacht Club is seizing a prime opportunity to enhance its facilities and offer even more to both residents and visitors. This new appeal aims to achieve two main goals:

1. Establish a Sailing School

This initiative will open up exciting opportunities for local youth and beginners to learn the art of sailing. It’s about more than just mastering a skill; it’s about building confidence, fostering a connection with the sea, and inspiring the next generation of island sailors.

2. Build a New Club Balcony

The vision includes creating a much-needed social space where members and the public can gather, watch events, and enjoy St Helena’s beautiful sunsets. This new balcony will complement the rebuilding of the historic balcony, which will serve as a charming entrance. It promises to be a fantastic venue for welcoming visiting yachts and hosting community events.

Achieving these ambitions involves a range of vital work, for which development permission has already been obtained:

Restore a donated yacht to provide essential sailing classes for kids and youngsters.

Rebuild the historic balcony to be used as an entrance to the new balcony.

Build the new main balcony to welcome visiting yachts, host sundowners, enjoy the ever-popular fish fried meals and to be used for community events.

Restore the historic staircase.

Repair the toilet and shower area.

“The Yacht Club is in a prime position on the wharf as its commonly known but also as a venue for an evening out as well as a centre for sailing,” says a spokesperson for the club. “The people who run the yacht club know this and have excellent plans for taking advantage to improve facilities. The volunteers need a little money from a lot of people to make it happen.”

This is the second crowdfunding appeal for the St Helena Yacht Club, and it’s for something much bigger and better than previous improvements. The club has the potential to become the favourite seafront destination on the island.

All it needs is a little of your support.
