St Helena is well known and well described for its rugged beauty and breathtaking night skies, but on Saturday, 28th March, it’s hoped that it will look a little different. In a powerful display of Community spirit, Everyone living on Island is being invited to switch off for Earth Hour.
From 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the St Helena National Trust, in partnership with local supporters, is calling on everyone to join millions of people around the globe in a simple yet act: turning off all non-essential lights for sixty minutes.
This is more than just an hour, Earth hour isn’t just about saving an hour’s worth of electricity; it’s a moment to pause and reconnect. By drenching the island in natural darkness, we get a rare chance to truly appreciate our world-class dark skies and the unique environment we call home.
How can you participate?
- Turn off all non-essential lights at home and work.
- Spend quality time with family and friends by candlelight or starlight.
- Step outside and enjoy the incredible stargazing St Helena offers.
- Think about the small, daily changes that can lead to a more sustainable future for our island.
