After 33 years of selling island holidays and promoting St Helena as a destination to tourists worldwide, the owner, Libby Weir Breen, of the Scotland-based company Island Holidays, has announced that the business will cease trading on 31st July 2020.
Libby, who made over 16 trips to St Helena, mentioned in her farewell message that over the years, many thousands of travellers had entrusted Island Holidays with their dreams and travel plans.
Speaking to Libby, she said, “It’s also been a privilege to work with so many amazing people from all over the world including those from St Helena who were outstanding and cared so deeply for their environment and wildlife.”
Incidentally, Libby was visiting St Helena in March 2020 and was actually on the island when the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, causing major disruptions to travel. Her final St Helena trip, which had been carefully planned, had to end abruptly, and she left the island without a farewell celebration.
Libby chatted with Johnny Clingham on the St Helena Podcast, recalling her 33 years of travel, which focused mainly on visits to the South Atlantic islands of St Helena, Ascension, and the Falklands. During the podcast, Libby talked about how it all began, her sea travel experiences aboard the RMS St Helena, her trip on the very first commercial flight to the island, and her final visit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
